On Friday 10 May 2024, at Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island, a very proud community come together to celebrate 40 years of Aboriginal community-controlled health services in the Quandamooka region.
In 1984 our founding North Stradbroke Island Elders, including Aunty Lyn Shipway, Maureen Myers, Denis Walker, Oodgeroo Noonuccal and Vincent Martin recognised the need for improved health services for our Aboriginal community.
Their vision, passion and drive has left a legacy that will impact on helping generations of Aboriginal people to live healthy and long lives.
With the support of ATSICHS Brisbane, NSI Aboriginal and Islanders Housing and government support, their dream has become a reality.
Today, Yulu-Burri-Ba proudly provides Primary Health, Family Services, Kinship and Foster Care, Paediatric Health, Family Wellbeing , Dental, Jajum Bajra Birthing in our Community, Youth Program, Deadly Choices, Counselling and Psychology services to over 5000 people living on North Stradbroke Island and the Redlands and Wynnum districts.
